With the arrival of summer, we feel like leaving home and spending the day at the beach, but those of us who live with cats cannot take them with us ... or so we think. And it is much easier to control a dog than a feline, since the latter is a furry dog that goes his own way.
But… Have you ever wondered if there are beaches for cats? I do, and this is what I found out.
Do these beaches exist?
The good news is yes; The bad news is that there is only one - at the moment - and it is in Sardinia. Is named On Pallosu and it comes to be like a feline sanctuary. It is located in the west of the island and is not well known by tourists, so the 61 neutered cats - I do not know if they have accepted more - that live on these coasts can lead a calm and happy life.
How do cats live in Su Pallosu?
Although it is a little explored territory, these animals have the immense luck of living in a paradise together with other animals that are indigenous to the place, be they insects, birds or rodents. What's more, are cared for and controlled by the Associazione Culturale Amici di Su Pallosu, which is a non-profit organization that provides food and veterinary assistance.
Where do they get the money for all these expenses? Well, from the sale of accessories, gifts, food or even accommodation. The people who go to see them do so by being guided by those in charge of the association, and if they are interested, they will end up buying something.
What is its history?
It is said that in the 80s there was an invasion of mice in Su Pallosu, so the tuna fishermen brought a good number of cats to counteract the plague. The cats did what they do best, which is to hunt rodents, so that they soon became heroes. Today the place is resided by only six people, who adore them.
But, and in Spain is it legal to bring cats to the beach?
As long as there is no sign that prohibits it, cats can be brought to the beach without problem. Now, it must be borne in mind that these animals are not very friends with water or with crowds of people. Only if he is a really sociable feline might he like that walk on the sand of the sea, but if not, it is best to leave him alone at home.
