Similarities between wild cats and domestic cats

Wild cats, like lions and tigers, have a lot in common with the cats that live with us; not in vain, we cannot forget that they all belong to the family family, the Felidae. They all have a very similar body and lifestyle, so it is important that we take this into account when we are going to adopt an adult kitten or cat, since otherwise we will not take care of it as it deserves.

Now, to what extent are they alike? If you want to know what are the similarities between wild cats and domestic cats, then I will tell you 🙂.

They are predators

This is the first thing that can be sensed. From the smallest cat to the imposing tiger they have a body designed to hunt: its claws can hold its prey effortlessly while its strong jaw suffocates it (or kills it directly, which also happens); their sense of hearing is much more developed than ours, being able to detect the sound of a possible prey several meters away; their eyes are capable of seeing in low light situations, and if we add to that that they do not make noise when walking… we will have the perfect hunters.

They sleep most of the time

And when I say a lot, I mean a lot: healthy adult felines sleep from 16 to 18 hours, and the puppies almost all the time except 2-4 hours spread throughout the day and night that they use to eat, relieve themselves and play. This is so because they are nocturnal predators, which means that they stay awake at dusk to be able to hunt their prey, which at that time they sleep.

They depend a lot on their mother when they are babies

Felines are born blind and deaf, so for a time (months) they need the protection of their mother, as well as the education that she gives them. In the case of domestic cats, the ideal is that they spend 3 months with their mother and with their siblings, since it is during those weeks when the little ones learn to eat solid food, to control the intensity of the bite, to control situations stress, ... well, they learn to be balanced cats. Now, after two months his human family can (and in fact must) go to see them, to be with them.

If we talk about other cats, for example cheetahs, they usually stay with their mother for about a year. But there are others, such as lions, who usually stay with their family if they are female (the males usually leave after 1-2 years to look for a mate and start their own families).
