The Savannah is the offspring of a serval and a Bengal. It retains some of its wild heritage, with added domestic and gentle traits. In fact, it seems to have the best of both worlds, as well as being incredibly beautiful.
It owes its name to the African savannas where its close relative, the serval, lives, which helped lay the foundation for the breed: the first and subsequent generations descended from a cross between a serval and a domestic Bengal cat. The International Progressive Cat Breeders Alliance (IPCBA) was the first multi-breed registry to recognize it. The goal of the Savannah breed program was to create a domestic cat with the physical traits that link it to the serval, but with the gentle and reliable temperament of a typical domestic cat.
Appearance
This breed has a large and muscular build, a long neck and large rounded ears, with clear eye markings that look like tears, hence its enormous resemblance to its wild ancestors.
Characteristics and temperament
The Savannah cat has a reasonably docile temperament. It makes a great family pet and is extremely easy to care for. It is one of the most loyal cats, highly intelligent and outgoing. Despite its wild nature, it is an ideal companion and excellent for children and other pets due to its good-natured approach.
Manto
It is one of the races with one of the most interesting and elegant cloaks on the planet. This can be speckled, striped or even sometimes speckled.
Typical colors
Their coat colors are moderate compared to other types of feline breeds. The most typical colors are usually amber, silver, solid black or smoke black.
