When we bring a cat home we have to take care of it the best we can, not only giving it water, food and a good place to live, but also taking it to the vet whenever it needs it. And it is that this animal, like ourselves, can get sick at any time.
To delay the appearance of problems as long as possible, one of the things to do is take him for a vaccination, one of the most important being the quadrivalent vaccine for cats. Why is this so?
What is it?
The quadrivalent vaccine is the first - or sometimes the second - that is given to the cat at 8-12 weeks of age and it is, therefore, the most important. From the time he is born until, more or less, a month and a half, colostrum - the first milk he drinks from his mother - has kept him protected, but after seven weeks the situation changes.
Your immune system is very vulnerable to attacks by microorganisms that cause diseases, so it must be reinforced with a vaccine, which is tetravalent.
What does it protect from?
This is a vaccine that offers immunity against the following diseases: feline panleukopenia, rhinotracheitis, calicivirosis and leukemia. In any case, a dose will not be enough, but it is necessary to give another booster the next four weeks and also give it one a year along with the rabies one.
Is it mandatory?
Obligatory as it is that of rabies is not, but it is highly advisable Especially if it is a kitten that is going to have access to the outside or if tomorrow we want to bring a second cat since in either of these two cases it could run the risk of contracting any of the diseases mentioned above, which are very contagious and life threatening if you do not receive treatment on time.
