How to stop my cat from meowing?

Meowing cat

The cat meows. It is the way you communicate with other animals, including humans. And, of course, there are some that will do it much more frequently than others.

At first we usually like this (who hasn't responded to their furry friend with a meow?  ), but when they do it at night or use a different tone of voice... it's not so fun anymore. That's why, it is important to know how to stop the cat from meowing.

Why do you meow?

First of all, it is very important to know why your cat is meowing, since it may need some kind of help. So, to make it easier for you to know the cause of their meows, below I will tell you which are the most common:

  • He is hungry: it will approach the feeder, and / or it will follow you to give it food.
  • Is in heat: the cat in heat becomes extremely affectionate, especially if it is female (the male is more likely to stare out the window to see if a cat appears).
  • Want to play: Whether it is a puppy or a playful cat, if it wants to have a fun time it will take anything and meow in a very high tone of voice, making short meows.
  • Is looking forward to leaving: he will stand in front of the door and meow more or less long and low until he gets out.
  • It hurts something: if he has had an accident or if he is ill, he will meow more or less short and serious.

What to do to stop meowing?

The solution will depend on the cause. For example, and following the order above, you will have to do the following:

  • Fill your feeder. In case you are overweight, I recommend giving you a high quality dry feed, which does not contain cereals, since you will need to eat less to feel full.
  • Castrate him (do not sterilize it). With castration, by removing the reproductive organs, heat and the behaviors associated with it are eliminated.
  • Tire him out with games. Cats need to have fun and enjoy themselves every day. So buy them a ball or a stuffed animal and spend a few minutes a day playing with them! You'll definitely notice the difference  .
  • The decision to let it out is a very personal one. If you live in a city or a town, it is best not to give that permission, but if on the contrary you are in the field, or even on the outskirts of a town, it may be a good idea. Of course, do not forget to castrate him, vaccinate him and put the microchip before anything else.
  • If something hurts, don't think twice: you must go to the vet.

In addition, it is very important to keep your litter box clean and ensure that you lead a happy and peaceful life.
