You get home, and as soon as you open the door you find your cat that was already waiting for you. What are you doing? Do you greet him and that's it; Or do you take it and eat it with kisses? You will probably opt for the second option, but ... how do you know if he really wants you to hug him?
As the days go by, and especially the weeks, people understand the gestures of our furry, but sometimes we can make mistakes. Then, How to hug a cat at the right time?
Observe their body language
This is the most important. A cat that does not want pampering will not ask you. Although it is obvious, sometimes we believe - or want to believe - that our furry wants us to give him affection all the time, and that does not have to be true. Even the most sociable, friendly and affectionate feline in the world needs to spend a little time "apart" (not only) from the family. For example, when we see that he takes a nap at the other end of the sofa, it is because he wants to be there and not next to us. This does not mean that he does not love us, simply that at that moment he wants to sleep there.
But How do you know when you do want pampering? Well, for that we will have to look at several things:
- His gaze will be very sweet, he may even open and close his eyes slowly as a show of appreciation towards us.
- If it is standing, it will have its tail raised and it will either not move it, or it will move it little by little; in the case of being seated, he will not lose sight of us.
- Your hair will stay in a normal position; that is to say, it will not have it bristling.
- It may climb onto our lap at the slightest gesture -voluntary or involuntary- that we make.
Pick him up correctly
Now we know when a cat wants pampering, but How do you hold yourself in your arms? In many places we can read that you have to take him by the skin between the shoulders and his head, in the same way that his mother did with him, but I am not very in favor of that, for the simple reason that humans are not cats - or in this case, cats-. It is true that with our hands we can be very delicate, but also very rough even if that is not our intention. In addition, an adult cat should not be caught in this way, because we would harm him.
Starting from this, I advise to hold both kittens and adult cats in your arms, in this way:
- The first thing is to lift it off the ground, and for this you have to put both hands under its front legs, in its armpits.
- Afterwards, it leans on our chest, putting its front legs at the height of our shoulders.
- Next, we lower one hand to support its hind legs, while with the other we hold it.
- Finally, we give him a few kisses and cuddles.
