How to care for the cat pads?

Paws of a cat

The cat spends a good part of its time grooming itself; in fact, it would not be strange to think that you are obsessed with your personal hygiene. But sometimes you need extra care to keep your feet, and specifically your pads, in good shape.

We don't normally pay much attention to this part of your body, but the truth is that it is very important that we do so. So let's see how to care for cat pads.

Keep the cat hydrated

You may be wondering what hydration has to do with keeping your pads healthy. Well, the answer is ... a lot. In the same way that the skin becomes dry and loses elasticity when the animal does not drink enough water, the pads not only dry but they also crack, which can cause pain and discomfort.

One way to avoid this is, precisely, ensuring that the cat drinks enough water (50-100ml for each kilo of weight per day), and in the event that it does not like the drinker, give it wet food that contains 70% moisture .

Check the pads daily

It doesn't hurt to take a look at your ear pads to see how they're doing. If it is a cat that goes outside dowels or any other foreign object get stuck between your fingers or even dig into them; And even if it does not leave the house, if we see that it does not support some of its legs well, we should also check them.

In case I had something We can remove it either with our hands or with tweezers, being very careful not to catch any hair as we could harm it.

Apply natural moisturizer

Like the Aloe vera. Put some on your pads, especially in summer, once a day or every other day, it will come in handy to keep them in perfect condition. But I insist, it has to be a natural cream, sold in herbalists; or if not purchased from a pet supply store. We should never use one that contains chemicals as we could endanger the life of the cat.

When in doubt, consult a veterinarian.
