Cats, all of them, are amazing. Some felines from which you can learn a lot about life and how to live it now, in this present moment. But, it must be said, tabby have something special. A "I don't know what" that turns what seemed like a simple topic into a fact.
And it is that the color of a cat's coat does not influence the character at all. Or, at least, science has discovered nothing. But yes, friends, yes. Everyone who shares their lives with them agrees on one thing: they are very, very special. So, How is the character of tabby cats?
What are tabby cats like?
Well good. I could not answer that question without having lived with several. At the time of writing this article, I am extremely lucky to be able to share my life with three cats, one of them is a gray tabby kitten who was born in August 2016 and was bottle-fed. It's not the only one. In the feline colony that lives in the garden there is another tabby cat, also gray, and the character is very similar.
How are these two cats? Loving to the fullest. As soon as you see you, they greet you and pay much attention to you. They want you to caress them, pamper them, ... in short, that you be with them as long as you can. They enjoy caresses, and they even seem to love listening to you (I can't tell if they understand any words, but maybe they do because of the sweet look they give you).
They are very social. They get along well with people and with other animals. Of course, they are cats and as such they are territorial, but from what I have been able to see, they accept newcomers without much problem.
I'm talking about the cats, but the male tabby cat I would also dare to say that it can become an adorable animal. In fact, we have a "tenant" in the garden like that, and it's amazing. A wonder of cat. Calm, affectionate. Obviously, it cannot be said that all tabby cats are like him because it is clear that each cat has its own personality, but after having participated in the odd forum and group of cat-loving people, I can tell you that They have a reputation for being emotionally dependent animals.
How many years does a tabby cat live?
Tabby cats they can live as long as any other cat. As long as they are healthy and well cared for, and especially if they do not go out at all, they can reach 20 years of age without problems and even, sometimes, overcome them.
On the contrary, if they are homeless or live in a state of semi-freedom (that is, they spend time at home and time away), their life expectancy will be shorter. It is impossible to know how much more, since it depends a lot on where they are: if they live in a city, they will live for a short time due to the amount of dangers that there are, but if they are in the country they could reach 6 years or more.
What is the Garfield cat breed?
As a cat lover, I adored Garfield. I always told myself that when I could live with an orange tabby, I would call him that. I love (ba) the cartoon series that they broadcast on television. Do you like it too (ba)? If so, you may wonder what race it is, right? As well, the character is inspired by the exotic cat breed, which originated after the crossing of Persians and British shorthair cats. In 1967 it was recognized as a purebred.
It is characterized by having a medium size, with a rounded head and very expressive rounded eyes. It has a life expectancy of up to 20 years and, although it looks a lot like the Persian, its coat does not require as much maintenance; in fact, a daily brushing will be more than enough to keep you healthy.
What breed are tabby cats?
It is often thought that tabby cats are a specific breed, but the reality is that it is nothing more than a pattern on the mantle and fur. There are many breeds of cats that can present it, for example, the common european or roman, lost, exotic, angora, or the main coon.
All of them have in common, apart from the characteristic pattern of stripes, which can be in shades of gray or orange, the typical "M" of the forehead.
What are the care they need?
Every cat that lives with humans must have food and water always freely available, a safe and quiet place to sleep (and live), and a lot of love.
In addition, it will be necessary to take him to the vet every time we suspect that he is sick, or when he has a check-up, which is normally recommended once a year.
If you are looking for a perfect feline companion, the tabby it may be the one you are looking for 😉.
Hello. I have a long-haired tabby cat. I love him! But the only one she lets caress is my 13-year-old daughter. Neither my husband nor I can caress her because she's leaving. He is five months old and is with his sister who is black and white. What can i do? It escapes us. The other face is re loving
Hi Sole.
There are cats that take a lot of affection for a particular person and not so much for the rest of the family.
Anyway, try giving him cans of wet cat food every now and then, or show him a rope and shake it so he will want to play with you. You can also caress her when you least expect it, but only a caress and very sporadic.
As you gain confidence, you will be able to pamper yourself more.
A greeting.
My cat is not very affectionate, she is very playful but not affectionate, is it because at the time of birth she did not feel that affection of love from humans? As you can see, I picked her up from the street and from that moment I gave her a lot of love but she did not.
Hi Erika.
Could be. Cats from the age of 2 to 3 months must have a lot of contact with humans and then want to be with them. But this is not always the case; I mean, there are cats that, no matter how much they have been with people, do not enjoy being caressed.
A greeting.
Hello, my name is Viviana, I am from Buenos Aires, we have a tabby kitten at home and she is loving
It sure is very happy 🙂
We rescued our tabby cat from the street when she was only one month old, from that moment she became part of our family, she is affectionate, very good with anyone who wants to caress her, docile, and like any cat she chooses the moment to show you her affection ha, she loves to sleep near my children or at the foot of our bed, ultimately our life changed with her arrival we love her
And I'm sure she loves you very much too 🙂
Congratulations.
Hello .. I have a tabby cat since she was 1 month old .. And I must say that she is quite an upright cat, I mean with all her qualities .. Affectionate when she wants, sometimes tender, other arrogant, she thinks she is the queen of the house, there is no way to understand it, you just have to love it for what it is a faithful representative of its older cousins, the lords of the jungle. Anyway, you never know what the character of your feline will be like .. Greetings
Certain. Each cat has its own character, and there is no more hehe 🙂
Greetings.
Hello, good afternoon, I hope you are well, how do I do so that my cat does not bite my feet and hands, well before, I used to play with her with my hands but I don't want to do it anymore because it is causing a bit of problems.
Hello Alejandro.
With a lot of patience, you can teach him to stop biting his hands. To do this, you must always play with a toy, a rope or a ball, but there must always be something between the hand and the cat. When playing, you have to avoid making sudden movements, since otherwise their instinct could be to try to bite what moves fast, since they interpret it as if it were a possible prey.
The rest of the time, if he tries to bite you, you have to keep your hand still. That way you will lose interest. And then lower it from the furniture if it is on top of one, or go to another room until it calms down.
Greetings.
Very good article. I also have a tabby kitten, I picked him up from the street when he was more than 1 month old and I love him madly and he loves me. He is very affectionate, playful and above all intelligent. All the best!!
Thanks, Yariel.
Cats are very very special 🙂
