Cats are animals very sensitive to weather changes, and that is something that we can notice especially with the passage from summer to autumn. As the days go by, the temperatures drop, and our furry ones begin to experience a series of changes both in their fur and in their character that what it does is prepare them to better cope with the autumn season.
If we take this into account, surely there are those who wonder what is the care of cats in autumn, truth? Well, don't worry anyone, I'm going to tell you everything next. 🙂
What changes do cats go through in the fall?
Cats during the fall are going to experience a series of changes, both physical and emotional.
Physical changes
The physicists are:
- The coat will become denser, thicker and stronger as it replaces the summer coat.
- Your health may weaken. Respiratory diseases such as colds, flu and even more serious ones such as tracheobronchitis are typical of this time.
- External parasites will still be very active. Ticks, fleas, lice, mites. You have to watch them.
Emotional and / or instinctual changes
The emotional and / or instinctive ones are:
- The coolest they will spend more time resting, near a heat source or under blankets.
- If they are not neutered they go outside and the weather is mild / warm, they could 'create' a new generation of kittens.
- Some they are more active than during the summer.
- They can increase your food intake.
How to take care of them during this time?
Now that we know what to expect from our cats in the fall, what better way than to help them get through this season better. To do this, the first thing we should do is take them to castrate if we do not intend to raise them or if we cannot take care of the kittens or know anyone who really wants and can do it. With castration we can forget about heat, escapes, and unwanted kittens.
Another thing we will do is deworm them, either with pipettes (highly recommended) or necklaces (only if they are used to wearing). Thus, we can also stop worrying about external parasites, which we all know can also be very annoying to humans.
Last but not least, We will ensure that they always have a comfortable, warm and safe corner where they can go to protect themselves from the cold. The ideal is to have on the same sofa where we lie down to watch television one or two blankets with which we can cover ourselves a little - also the cat 😉 - whenever we need it. Only with this simple gesture, and not letting them go outside, we will make sure that our furry ones are well protected.
And you, how do you take care of your cat in autumn?
