If we take into account that cats are very sensitive animals, that they do not tolerate stress and that, as if that were not enough, they know how to hide pain better than anyone, we will have no choice but to be attentive to any symptoms that may appear.
For this, in addition to treating them with respect and affection, sometimes we will have to choose to put them in therapies. These must be natural, since in this way we will make sure to give you something that will be respectful with your body. One of them may be aromatherapy for cats, of which I will talk to you next.
What is it?
As the name suggests, aromatherapy is scent therapy. It is a branch of phytotherapy (therapy with medicinal plants) and consists of the application of one or more essential oils. These are nothing more than plant products that are extracted from aromatic plants, also concentrating the medicinal properties that they have. Thus, with a minimal amount of essential oil, a beneficial effect for cats can be achieved.
How Does It Work?
The topical route is usually used, since the oral route does not turn out to have as many benefits. In this way, the essential oil acts through two mechanisms of action, which are:
- Transdermal route: penetrates the skin, from where it reaches the bloodstream. From there it is distributed throughout all the tissues of the body and acts on those with which it has an affinity.
- Olfactory way: it reaches the central nervous system, and from there it begins to act on a neurological level.
How does it apply?
It is important to consult with a holistic veterinarian to tell us how we should apply it to our cats so that they have more effect. Anyway, we must know that essential oils must be diluted in other vegetable oils like rosehip oil or sweet almond oil, for example.
