What to do if you find a litter of cats on the street

Kittens

Kittens, from birth until they are two-three months old, depend on their mother for everything: to eat, learn to behave like cats, hunt, control the intensity of the bite, ... in short, to become effective predators. The problem is that when they are born in the street there are so many dangers that, too often, their mother dies from a car or illness.

What to do if you find a litter of cats on the street? How can you help them? If you want to know, then I'll tell you.

If they are very babies ...

Scottish Fold kittens

Newborn kittens who have been left without a mother have no chance on the street. Most likely, they will die of hot / cold or starvation within a few hours. To avoid it It is very important to take them to a place where they can be protected, warm and where there is someone who takes responsibility for them, feeding them every 3-4 hours first with replacement milk (you can get it at veterinary clinics and pet stores) and then from the month on - they will have their first teeth and eyes wide open - with wet kitten food. You have more information this article.

If they are kittens of two months or something more ...

Kittens

Young kittens, like the ones in the picture above, are already animals that are going through or have gone through the sensitive period of socialization. Unless they are between two and three months old, it will be difficult to get them home as their mother has had time to teach them not to approach humans. Therefore, what I advise to do in these cases is take them to a safe place if they are in a dangerous area (very busy, or where bad people live), as explained in this article.

Another option, If you see that they are tame, it is to take them to a house with a garden trying not to separate them, since they have grown up together and feel very close. As soon as they are castren (at 5-6 months) they can be given permission to go to the garden and enjoy themselves.

I hope it has been useful to you 🙂.
